    The 'knife in the lung' doesn't sound good - I had something similar a few years ago, it could be pneumonia or residual infection/fluid. You said the antibiotic prescription was a bit stingy. Might need a scan there - take it steady.

    • @DuncMcNutt
      @DuncMcNutt 15 годин тому

      Yeah. I last had pneumonia back at the end of December 2013. That really knocked me back. I was still swimming competitively at the time, and I tried to return to training after a month. It took 3 months before I could exercise properly again. So yep, been there before. This isn’t as bad this time. I was really bad then. There’s something going on though, so just carefully playing it by ear and listening to my body carefully which I’m pretty good at after all these years. Today, it didn’t hurt as much as yesterday. Even the slightest little bump in the road yesterday was bad.

    Interesting about the rim brake/disc brake. I have my +12 year old rim brakes set up and by changing the pads, maintenance and generally becomming more 'in tune' with how i ride and bike responds have lost that sense of urgency in spalshing out on a new bike with new disc brakes. Only in January was i doubting rim brakes were still an option. saved myself some money :-)

    • @DuncMcNutt
      @DuncMcNutt 2 дні тому

      I also think rim brakes are much easier to service compared to disc. And for me, I find they perform just as well on road at least. I'd be interested to try a disc cyclocross bike off road.

    Sorry to hear you have not been well and still suffering, take it easy. Interesting you also went for C02 even if you use it as a back up. I also have the tyre glider and had a practice at home when swapping over to my tubeless tyres and I found it easy, especially touching on your other topic of grip strength as I don’t have very strong wrists. I’ve never ridden a road bike with rim brakes, only disc so I can’t compare how much more difficult it is to pull on the brakes. Get well soon

    Sooo, do you think this would fill a motorcycle tyre?... Far less pressure, so the pump doesn't have to work as hard, but a lot more volume.

    • @DuncMcNutt
      @DuncMcNutt 5 днів тому

      Hi. No, I don’t think this would manage with a motorcycle tyre. As you say the volume is a lot bigger. There are similar products made marketed at motorcycles I have seen.

    Don't think I could be bothered with that, it looks quite big and bulky, seems to take a fair amount of time to pump up, makes a racket that would drive me mad and is just another thing to charge up. Cycling used to be a simplistic sport, get on your bike and ride, now we charge, GPS head units, lights and gears in some cases and have then batteries in stuff like power meters and now throw in a mini pump. I have used CO2 for years and never had any issue, it's never failed me once, I carry 2 cartridges and I have a mini pump as a back up on every bike, butI have never ever needed a mini pump yet. Thanks for the review but that one is a no from me.

    • @DuncMcNutt
      @DuncMcNutt 9 днів тому

      I’d say it’s no bigger than carrying a couple of cartridges of CO2 plus a small pump as back up. I understand what you say about cycling being simplistic. I’ve been cycling for probably 50 years. Definitely 45. I dig out my CO2 last week. And another canister was flat. So that’s two I had that I remember recently. Maybe a bad batch? Anyway I have ordered some more to compare. CO2 is certainly a hell of a lot faster than the electric pump, but then the electric pump is a lot faster than my little mini hand pump. If we go back to the old steel frame days, I have one of those hand pumps that fitted under the top tube. They were pretty good. Mind you, I had one of those fail on me out on a ride once. It flew apart into several pieces. That’s the 100psi we used to put in. Luckily I wasn’t on my own!

  • @MarkFrostCycling
    @MarkFrostCycling 21 день тому

    I really thought it would pump up the tubes a lot quicker, more in line with a c02 canister. Do you think this kind of thing is worth getting Duncan? I do love how small it is. Great vlog my friend 🙌

    • @DuncMcNutt
      @DuncMcNutt 21 день тому

      They do pump up pretty quick initially, then getting the higher pressure is what takes time. With a CO2 canister, I guess the pressure in the canister is so so much higher. I haven't used CO2 for years. Not since the days I used to carry it when doing time trials or triathlons....and I haven't done a triathlon since 2016. Time will tell if I think it's worth getting over a CO2 setup. Thanks Mark.

    • @DuncMcNutt
      @DuncMcNutt 16 днів тому

      @@heidijarvis777 the noise issue isn’t much of an issue for me as I cycle alone 90% or more of the time I’d say. Another factor I suppose, if id have been in a group and my pump broke or I had CO2 canister flat chances are someone else in the group would have a pump or CO2.

    I think the other thing worth knowing would be how fast the cells in it self discharge/degrade after being fully charged❓ This is difficult to test unless you are willing to leave it for weeks, but if they are poor quality it could leave you stranded even when you believe it to be fully charged😬

    • @DuncMcNutt

      Hi Mike. Yes, I have also wondered how it will hold charge when left a long time. Let’s just say I will still be carrying a hand pump until I can trust it. Saw your ride on Strava, what a lot of people might not realise is, it's not the distance or ascent which are the most impressive stat..(although both are impressive as stand alone figures) but it's the average speed. The average speed over that distance and ascent is the most impressive. It shows just how hard you worked on that ride and how well you performed. Chapeau!

      Yes, I have got one. I have a video somewhere just before I did my Everetsing attempt in 2020 when I fitted it to my TCR SL getting it ready for the attempt and a 11-34 cassette. I fitted a new R8000 mech in the end as it just worked better. I still have that mech so that is what I will fit.

    Every so often we get one of these 'epic mechanical days' - that's probably why my seatpacks have grown ever-larger over the years - but there'll always be some new breakdown situation we can't cover. I once snapped a crank in mid-sprint and had to walk & freewheel home for 20+ miles ... with blood trickling down my shins. I always found bank-holiday traffic up there was hectic, even around Uldale and Caldbeck. A few days and you'll be back to the peace and quiet.

    • @DuncMcNutt
      @DuncMcNutt Місяць тому

      That is one I haven't done, never snapped a crank! I had my handlebars snap one day, luckily I was at work (just leaving) and I worked next door to a bike shop. That was at lunchtime, fixed by tea time. I was very lucky, think all I did was bang my chest on the stem. I'd only just set off.

    Interesting to see what pump alternative will you buy, because I’m also looking for one and a one with a flexible end. It’s sad that no one has stopped to ask, especially that you were in the middle of nowhere. Luckily you’ve made the pump work.

      I need to have a look at the metal Cero pump which fell apart. A couple of modifications and it should be OK I think. Worst case scenario, I could have walked down the road for a kilometre or so and I would have been at a pub, and I could have sorted something from there I'm sure. A taxi or something.

      Yeah, I know. It's been a while, but I do seem to have times when I get almost stranded for one reason or another. Tone that is still engrained in my memory was about 1992 on the top of Cowpe Lowe near Scout Moor (that's at 440m above sea level or 1440ft) all alone when my chain snapped while out mountain biking, In those days I didn't carry a chain tool. Ended up fixing it by bashing the plates back together with two rocks.......Stuff happens and then I seem to add something else to my tool kit.

      I went through a period of using CO2 cartridges. Carried them for years. Then once when I needed them I had a flat canister so I was stuck. Bet that’s at least 15 years ago. Since then they have always carried a hand pump. Old school normally works. Clearly not always. I have ordered something which could be my future go to.
